Past Travels

Not much of this land to my past family’s been shown
And my roots here are far from fully grown
But to the family that came here even if it wasn’t for long
We’ve been here

With my knowledge not being full of my family’s past 
And especially when the tree has so many differences between my mom’s and my dad’s
It’s quite hard to speak up
But after 16 years I feel I can do it at last to say I’m happy
That we’ve been here 

For my father’s family past, I’m sure there’s much to compensate
And I hope that in the future we can clear up all that hate
But I thank Indigenous folk who accepted us for showing up this late so I can say
We’ve been here
With pride on this date
