IAM Media literacy
JAYU is a Toronto-based charity dedicated to sharing human rights stories through the arts. The iAM Program program offers equity-deserving youth ages 12-29 free arts mentorship.
This two-day intensive will give youth the foundations of media literacy, the ethics and responsibilities of journalism and attaches the theory to practice by examining headlines and articles of today's pressing political issues.
This program is pen to artists of all forms. Participants will create a piece in an artform of their choice to convey a message of counter-propaganda on a current political topic which they see fit.
MEET YOUR MENTOR
SYLPHIA BASAK
Sylphia is a writer, journalist, multimedia creative and community organizer. Based both in London, England and her home city, Toronto, her work expands across a multitude of creative fields, specializing in media studies and critical analysis. She has spent the last year focusing on decolonial academia and political/community organization across a range of spaces in both London and Toronto, with the goal of bringing as many people, particularly from marginalized communities in the west, together under one unified cause, using a variety of mediums to do so.
