Paul Daniel Torres is a Toronto-based director, writer, actor, and community worker. Raised by Ecuadorean immigrant parents near Jane and Finch, his diverse upbringing influences his eclectic visual and sonic style, shaped by Toronto's multicultural mosaic. His work examines the complexities of the “immigrant dream,” identity, race, class, and mental health within neo-colonial systems, all while aiming to entertain and educate.

As an Established Film Artist & Facilitator with Vibe Arts, he teaches film and fosters community engagement. His thesis film won Best Screenplay at Sheridan’s 2019 Media Art Awards and screened at TIFF Next Wave, NFFTY, and the Official Latino Film Festival, earning him the “Young Trailblazer” award from Danny Hastings and “Best Direction” at Toronto Youth Shorts. His follow-up short, “The Mis(RE)education of the Invisible yet Furious Five,” was nominated for six awards at the 2021 Reelworld Film Festival.

His upcoming romantic comedy short, “Fried Fish & Plantain,” stars TIFF Rising Star Emma Ferrera and is preparing for its festival run.

Outside of filmmaking, Paul runs “The Friendly Neighbourhood Narrative, Performance, Cinematic Arts & Media Literacy Program,” and is a member of the Canadian League of Poets. He has showcased installation and performance art at Nuit Blanche, Whippersnapper Gallery, and The Bata Shoe Museum.
