This iAM Photography Program is an 8-session workshop that will be in person from JAYU at 401 Richmond Street West in studio 380. This is a program for graduates of the iAM Intro to Photography (Level 1) program.

NOTE: The iAM Program prioritizes registration for equity-deserving artists/communities. Equity-deserving is inclusive of Black and racialized folks, people with disabilities, Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Métis), 2-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer (2SLGBTQ+), newcomers to Canada and people experiencing homelessness or precarious housing.

Program Mentors:

Bernice Mwaura

Bernice Mwaura is an interdisciplinary artist and community advocate hailing from Nairobi, Kenya, and currently based in Toronto, Canada. She utilizes photography, film and visual mediums to tell stories of joy, belonging and linkage. Bernice is a Fellow with the 1834 Foundation, a Youth Policy Maker with the Ontario Council for International Cooperation and is completing a residency and upcoming exhibit with ReAct, ReCreate, ReVision. 

Shane Ravel

Shane Ravel (he/him) is a creative artist from Scarborough, Ontario. He specializes in portrait and creative photography. His photography is about connection and emotion. Shane is fascinated with the art of translating feelings into photos and is driven to create images that evoke a sense of wonder, curiosity, and possibility. He hopes his work can inspire others to see the world around them in new and creative ways. Shane is currently learning filmmaking, and he is working on an archival film project about intergenerational rest and care. Outside of creating art, Shane loves playing basketball, drinking bubble tea and watching anime.

  • April 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18, 25 June 1, 8

  • 2 - 5 pm

  • This program is for graduates of the iAM Intro to Photography (Level One) program

  • Food and TTC tickets will be provided at each session.

  • Must agree to attend each workshop for the full 3 hours

  • Must be between the ages of 12-29

  • Access to apply for paid opportunities including being hired as a junior mentor for future iAM Photography workshops upon completion of the program

  • If you do not have your own camera, one will be provided.
