Discover a unique fusion of sound design and poetry. Join us for an immersive 2-3 hour session where you'll delve into the captivating world of audio creativity.

Through basic understandings of the role audio can play into storytelling and field recordings. You'll get to play with different methods of using audio to emphasize your writings.

NOTE: It is recommended participants have access to a mobile device or laptop to use for the workshop. If you do not have one, please indicate that in the registration and we’ll arrange accommodation.

Must be 18+ to participate

Registering does not guarantee your spot in the workshop. All participants will be confirmed or waitlisted by August 6.

MENTORS

 

Shanik Tanna

Shanik Tanna is a creative producer and community leader who explores the influence of various creative mediums on learning through play.

As a co-founder of Recess Community, he curates immersive experiences through creative workshops, artist showcases, video production, photography, music production, and creative technology. Recently, he completed a five-year tenure at Shopify as a Senior Creative Producer, where he focused on envisioning ways to tell the stories of entrepreneurs and their products, thereby elevating the discussion surrounding their dreams. He has collaborated with small and major brands as a freelance creative producer and was recently invited to discuss the significance of play in our lives on TVO's The Agenda. Continuously working on new experiences at Recess Community, he remains dedicated to fostering creative curiosity and helping others explore their artistic potential.


Martin Gomes

Martin Gomes (he/they) is an Afro/Latino, queer performer born & based in downtown Toronto who specializes in music & poetry.

As a poet, he’s performed for organizations like CBC, Sony, Soho House, The Harbourfront Centre, and a Nuit Blanche cabaret. He’s also had the privilege of exhibiting his work in spaces like Cliffside Village Bookstore, Withrow Commons, Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre, TOLive, Kuumba, Toronto’s International Festival of Authors, and the Meridian Arts Centre.

He currently works with plenty of different non-profit organizations such as Unity Charity, JAYU, Lakeshore Arts, Shakespeare in Action, Thrive Youth, and VIBE Arts teaching youth either spoken word poetry or beatboxing.
